Beware new Domain Name sales scam

A ressurgence of an age-old domain name sales scam has statred again, with scammers UKDNR (calling themselves "Domain Name Registrar") are telephoning .uk and .com registrants, with a high-pressure sales tactic based on the false claim that someone is attempting to register domain names similar to yours, then offering to register them ahead of this fictitious 3rd party at a vastly inflated price.

Anyone receiving unsolicited sales calls regarding domain names and hosting should regard such calls as fraudulent, and under no circumstances should you give these scum your credit-card details.

An important part of choosing your dedicated / collocated server is considering how you will back up the data on your new machine. Even though we recommend and use the best hardware that is available for all our servers, disks can occasionally fail and in some cases the data on them may be lost. We use high capacity DELL NAS Online Network Attached Storage units connected to Dell SCSI DLT4000 Tape drives to manage the backup procedure, we are also investing in high-performance SAN fibre-channel equipment to provide long-term online-archival facilities for business contingency planning. Using NAS, DLT tapes and tape automation, virtual storage and SANs (storage area networks) we can provide a cost-effective service to manage the ever increasing quantities of data *amp; documents companies use today. Saving time, money and resources within the business as welll as providing a much-need backup copy in the event of a disaster. backup product logo

Standard Backup Solutions

The Othello Technology Systems standard backup solution includes:

  • Installation, configuration and schedule of server side backup routine(s)
  • Online archive space for backups - allowing you *instant* extra space when required
  • 24/7 recovery of data in the event of data loss from online archive
  • Automated daily tape backup of online archive, using DLT IV tapes
  • Low cost recovery of data from Tape to archive
  • Tapes rotated daily in an industry standard son, father, grand-father methodology.
  • Tapes stored for easy access onsite in a separate part of the building in a secure fire proof safe.
With the standard backup option we can install and configure backup software on your machine to carry out a backup of essential files at regular intervals (normally daily, although you may sepcify the frequency) to the online NAS, with a tape backup made daily of the NAS. CD archive copies of the NAS can also be made and shipped direct to you for a small additional cost. You have full control over restore from NAS. Restore from tape back to NAS is at our current published rates (currently £100/hour)
Monthly: £10 per month per 1Gb required (min 5Gb, max 100Gb), Setup: £100

Advanced/Bespoke Backup Solutions

In addition we offer three preset advanced archive / backup solutions that will protect your company and clients in the event of any data loss... Each of these tape rotation archives require you to have your own tape-backup device within your dedicated or collocated server. All tapes and are securely stored on site in a large fire-proof safe.

Monthly Backup Solution

With this option we collect your (preferably) *ejected* tape and install a replacement at a set date & time, once every month.
Monthly: £30 per month per tape i.e. if you need 2 tapes/month = £60, Setup: £100

Weekly Backup Solution

With this option we collect your (preferably) *ejected* tape and install a replacement at a set day and time, once every week.
Monthly: £60 per month per tape/week i.e. if you need 2 tapes/week = £120/month, Setup: £100

Daily Backup Solution

With this option we collect your (preferably) *ejected* tape and install a replacement at a set time, once every day.
Monthly: £100 per month per tape/day i.e. if you need 2 tapes/day = £200/month, Setup: £100

We recommend tapes are rotated in an industry accepted son, father, grand-father archive methodology.

To order backups, simply select when placing your initial order or if you are a current customer then you may order backups from your Online Control Panel.
